Ethiopian Emerald

Ethiopian emerald is a rich deep green color with pale to dark yellow spots that are sometimes lighter than the rest of the stone. The colors in the spots will vary depending on how the light hits them, but they typically range from white to grayish-green. Ethiopian emeralds come from all over Ethiopia, including its capital Addis Ababa.

The history of Ethiopian emerald goes back to the first century when the Romans looked to this area for its green gemstones. They used the emeralds in earrings and necklaces and for seals on official documents.

Since ancient times, many civilizations have used Ethiopian crystals as a healing tool. The Kalahari people of southern Africa have used it for countless generations as a traditional healing tool to support physical and spiritual balance.

Chemical Composition of Ethiopian Emerald

Emerald is a beryllium aluminum silicate with a hardness of 7.5 – 8.0 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 2.74 – 2.78, making it slightly heavier than quartz and citrine. It is composed of beryllium, aluminum, oxygen, and silicon. The color of an emerald comes from impurities present within the stone, such as chromium, vanadium, or iron (most often chromium).

Overall, the chemical composition of Ethiopian emerald does not differ from that of a Colombian emerald. However, due to the unique environment in which Ethiopian emerald is found, impurities are present in different quantities. For example, chromium is commonly present in both stones, but differences in concentration can cause variations in color. There are also different impurities in Ethiopian and Colombian stones, including vanadium, manganese, and iron, which may account for the slight variations between the two.

Ethiopian emerald is sometimes mislabeled as Colombian, Burmese, or African. However, all of these stones have different chemical compositions and origins. Moreover, all three of these stones are found in some parts of Africa.

Benefits of Ethiopian Emerald

The stone represents spirituality and reminds us of the importance of attention to the details surrounding us. It encourages us to see beauty in everything around us. It enhances our creativity, helps decision-making, and promotes understanding among friends and family.

Ethiopian emerald is a spiritual stone that not only connects one with their higher self but also with animals, nature, and other people. It acts as a facilitator for meditation due to its ability to calm an overactive mind. It is also an excellent stone for promoting creativity and can be used to enhance your creative abilities.

Ethiopian emerald has been used since ancient times as a powerful healing tool. Many cultures have relied on this stone’s ability to balance the body’s vital energy, known as chi. This allows it to restore balance and support overall well-being through a wide range of physical and spiritual ailments.

Emerald can assist with a wide range of issues, including depression and stress, fever, rheumatism and arthritis, ear and eye disorders, conjunctivitis (pink eye), mental illness, headaches, and migraines, as well as skin conditions such as psoriasis.

More recently, it has been used to support women’s health issues, including menstrual discomfort, infertility, and childbirth. It is also believed to be beneficial for supporting good digestion and the healthy function of the liver and kidneys.

What makes Ethiopian Emerald special

Ethiopian emerald is one of many different green gemstones. However, this gemstone is particular because it has a unique composition of rich green colors and yellow spots that add depth to its beauty. Many of the stones available today come from this small area in Ethiopia near the capital Addis Ababa. The birthstone for June, the Ethiopian emerald, is said to symbolize eternal youth and perfect love.

Ethiopian emeralds that are entirely green are rare but do exist. Most stones available today have some yellow or green tint that makes up their color. The most common shade of Ethiopian emerald is a medium to dark green with yellow spots, but there is no limit to what can be found in a rare stone.

The result of this unique and beautiful gemstone can vary significantly based on the amount of iron impurities present in the stone. In fact, within the same size and weight of a ring, one could find two completely different stones.
