Indian Emerald

The Emerald is a gemstone that is the green variety of Beryl. Emeralds usually have a dark green color with inclusions throughout them as common happening and other colors such as yellow or blue.

It was first discovered in Egypt and Turkey and used for ornamental purposes such as jewelry or other fine arts. The name originates from the gemologist who found it when he discovered it in Colombia. The Greek word ‘semarus’ means green, thus the name ‘Emeraude.’ It is also used as currency in many places such as Colombia due to its popularity among many people.

The three most common types of Emerald are Cleavelandite, Erythillte, and Alexandrite. Clevelandite is more rare than the other two. Alexandrite is highly sought after due to its color.

Properties of Indian Emerald

Emeralds are unique and very rare in nature. They are also marketed with high price tags so they can only be bought by the rich, or when found in the earth, they are bought by big corporations and gems laboratories.

Indian emeralds contain a higher percentage of chromium, the green coloration agent that produces its green color. This natural chemical increases its hardness levels to 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it one of the hardest gemstones.

Hematite, which is found in the earth, makes up Indian Emeralds much like how other kinds of hematite are found. Hematite acts as an abrasive agent that takes the color away from its surrounding areas. This action causes the green color that Indians see when they look at their emeralds.

Indian Emeralds can also be heat-treated to make them stronger. Heat-treating these gemstones is done by heating them to a high temperature and using chemicals and acids found on the market. When this happens, it makes the stone more durable.

Indian Emerald is available in many colors, such as yellow, brown, or blue-tinted emeralds. They vary from being transparent and clear when they are colored while being completely colorless in some instances.

Benefits of Indian Emerald

The Indian Emerald is generally seen as a larger variety of the Emerald. People typically use emeralds to make jewelry and show off their wealth. The reason why many people so quickly and widely accept them is that they are very durable, and they last for several generations.

Indian Emerald has been an essential part of Colombian heritage. It is identified with the Chibcha culture and is also considered a symbol of Colombian national identity.

What Makes Indian Emerald Special

The Indian Emerald is one of the most valuable emeralds in the world, which is why it has a place among some of the most expensive gems. Described as having an “even rich depth that is almost too intense to stare at for more than a few seconds” by Gempundit, these stones are found exclusively in India.

The value of the Indian Emerald is based on its rich green color with various hues making a brilliant effect. It is known for having flawless clarity and a very high level of transparency. A high number of inclusions and color zoning is also common in Indian emeralds, which is why they are usually sold as antique or natural emerald cut stones.

In addition to the brilliant green color, Indian Emerald is often cited for its intense deepness of color. Add to that it’s level of translucence, that it can be compared to the best diamonds, and you get a gemstone with a high value per carat.
